Fawzia Koofi - First Female Speaker of the Afghanistan Parliament - 2/13/2012

Fawzia Koofi is Afghanistan's first female Parliament speaker and a noted activist for women and children's rights. She is currently a leading candidate for the presidential elections in 2014 and was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2009. Before her election to Parliament, Koofi was employed by UNICEF as a child protection officer. Koofi has made her leadership journey in a country of harsh topography, internal conflict, intermittent wars and a militant government. She completed high school during the war ravaged years and entered a competitive medical school. But soon after the Taliban took over in September 1995, and barred women from access to all education. Finding the doors of a university education closed to her, Fawzia focused her energy towards women's right organizations, and worked closely with one of the most vulnerable group such as Internally Displaced People, and marginalized women and children.

Her country has highest - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com

Senator Russ Feingold - 2/23/2012

Free event for members. Senator Russ Feingold, one of America's most famous politic leaders, served in the United States Senate for 18 years. Senator Feingold is best known for his work with Senator John McCain to clean-up election campaign finance abuses, via the Campaign Finance Reform Act of 2002. The act bans soft money contributed to candidates and parties, thus closing the loophole that has significantly affected our national political priorities for the past decade. He aimed to blunt the influence of larger moneyed interests. He exhorted that the 2004 Democratic Convention was a corporate trade show. Senator Feingold was also the only senator to vote against the Patriot Act, was the first senator to propose a timetable to exit Iraq, and believes we need a timetable to leave Afghanistan. Amongst other things Senator Feingold will discuss: President Obama admits to Feingold he was right on Iraq: Russ I'm always with you--just six months later. eye rolling gaffes by Je - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com

In addition to the intimate event, each paid attendee will receive Martin Sheen & Emilio Estevez's hardcopy book. In person they will provide a very intimate conversation spanning more than fifty years of family history, of a creative father and son set against the background of Hollywood. They will discuss their profound bond with each other, and offer candid insight into their lives and careers. Martin Sheen born Ramon Antonio Gerardo Estevez, is perhaps best known for his unforgettable performances in Badlands (1973), Apocalypse Now (1979), Wall Street (19 - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com
