Michael B. Mukasey became U.S. Attorney General in October 2007, succeeding Alberto R. Gonzales, who resigned in the midst of investigations into the firings of federal prosecutors. Before becoming Attorney General, Mukasey spent 19 years as a federal judge in New York, including serving as chief judge, after being appointed by President Reagan in 1987. Earlier, he had been a prosecutor in Manhattan when Rudolph W. Giuliani was also a young assistant United States Attorney.

While Mr. Mukasey handled many high profile trials, his biggest cases involved terrorism. In 1993, he presided over the prosecution of Omar Abdel Rahman, the so–called Blind Sheik, whom he sentenced to life in prison for his role in a plot to blow up New York landmarks and tunnels. In 2003, as chief judge, he ruled that Jose Padilla was an enemy combatant but entitled to access to his lawyers.

Widely recognized as one of the strongest film and stage actors in the world, Philip Seymour Hoffman delivered knockout performances in films like Capote (2005), The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), The Big Lebowski (1997), Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999) and Almost Famous (2000), Cold Mountain (2003), State and Main (2000), a desperate former child actor in Along Came Polly (2004), The Savages (2007), and a Scent of a Woman (1992), in which Al Pacino won an Oscar.

Hoffman won the Oscar for his portrayal of the famed author Capote. Hoffman has brought his theater–trained sensibilities and a fearless approach to some of cinema's most uncomfortably realistic portrayals, battling dark human urges, addictions, and moral conflicts with powerful if unflattering vulnerability. Hoffman continues to stand out for his willingness to be emotionally exposed, and often to great dramatic effect.

In Mission Impossible 3 (2006), Hoffman tackled a rare role as an out–and–out - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com

Kosovo now has a 90% Albanian majority.

On January 15, 1999 45 Albanians by Serbian troops (Racak incident), was the culmination of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) attacks and Serbian reprisals that had continued throughout the winter of 1998â€"1999. The incident was immediately condemned as a massacre by Western countries and the United Nations Security Council, and later became the basis of one of the charges of war crimes leveled against President Milosevic and his top officials. The details of what happened at Račak were revealed shortly after Serb paramilitaries left the scene of the massacre. Rolli - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com

Born in Bogota, raised in France, Ingrid Betancourt at the age of thirty–two gave up a life of comfort and safety to return to Colombia to become a political leader in a country that was being slowly destroyed by terrorism, violence, fear, and a pervasive sense of hopelessness. In 2002, while campaigning as a candidate in the Colombian presidential elections, she was abducted by the FARC. Nothing could have prepared her for what came next. She spend the next six and a half years in the depths of the jungle as a prisoner of the FARC. Chained day and night for much of her captivity, she never stopped dreaming of escape and, in fact, succeeded in getting away several times, always to be recaptured. The facts of her story are so astounding. Betancourt is releasing Even Silence Has an End, which is her deeply personal and moving account of that time. This will be moving and fascinating event with possibly the future President of Colombia, who experienced hell at the hands of terrorists for - RSS Feed Powered by RunMyClub.com

Desmond had been one of the founders of Cumann na nGaedhael, the party created to support the Anglo–Irish Treaty signed in 1921 between Britain and Ireland, and which created the Irish Free State.
As prime minister, he advocated a liberalization of Irish society, to create what he called the non sectarian nation of 'Tone and Davis'. His attempt to introduce divorce was defeated in a referendum, though he did liberalize Ireland's contraception laws.
