The Grassroots Peace Process for Israel/Palestine

Sharon Joy, founder and facilitator of the Houston Palestinian-Jewish Dialogue Group will share photos and information about her recent trip to Israel/Palestine, where she participated in dialogue groups, retreats, and visited with many people who are actively working to promote tolerance and understanding through groups and projects, including the Arava Institute for Environmental Sciences and Ukuleles for Peace. She will speak about the 4 year old Houston Palestinian-Jewish Dialogue Group and discuss some of its triumphs and challenges.This local group is comprised of people who continue to meet with each other to form sustained relationships through listening, learning and dialogue. She will be joined by a few members of the Houston Dialogue Group who will share their unique experiences. This special SIETAR presentation will include visuals and photos. (more...)

An Experience of a European Expat in Kuwait

Frank Lucas, a corporate European expat who has worked in several countries over the last 25 years, will share his experience of working in Kuwait. Frank lived in Kuwait with his wife while his two daughters were studying in England and the USA. He will share challenges of family adjustment and expatriate experiences in the Middle East. Frank will discuss the Kuwaiti culture in particular and how it differs from other cultures he has experienced in other countries. Providing Leadership Development in Shanghai, the City of the Future

Having recently spent 5 days working with Engineering Managers in a company in Shanghai, and an additional 5 days traveling around the city, I would like to share my learnings and experiences. Together with short videos and pictures, I will discuss Shanghai, including its history, in the context of the 60th Anniversary of the People's Republic of China. I will discuss several ideas and thoughts about presenting leadership concepts in this culture and environment, where English is very limited and the prevailing beliefs center around respect for those who know more and silence is golden. The role of a translator, the use of wall charts, the value of teaming with others, and the need for considerable patience will also be discussed. (more...)
