The Power of We!

November 2010

Dear Friend of AWBC,

In today's uncertain economy, women entrepreneurship offers individuals and communities the possibility to create jobs and economic opportunity for those who otherwise could not. The Association of Women's Business Center through its leadership and advocacy supports the entrepreneurial training centers who annually reach over 155,000 women who rely on business ownership income for economic self sufficiency.

This past year the AWBC marshaled resources to increase the training programs and capacity of these entrepreneurial centers.

As the collective voice of women's business centers and women entrepreneurs, the AWBC successfully worked with Congressional committees and legislators to increase the annual appropriations awarded to Women Business Centers. The funding, to which the AWBC does not take a dime, provided an additional 30 percent to ensure women business centers have the resource to counsel, train and mentor an ever growing client base due to our Nation's recession.

In addition to federal funding, the AWBC secured corporate funding and in-kind donations for WBC programs and trainings.

Recognizing the importance of building the accounting practices of women entrepreneurs, the AWBC made it possible for each women's business center to receive a $38,000 in-kind donation of Intuit's QuickBooks for their clients.

This year, the AWBC also integrated its technology and website to provide the entrepreneurial centers with online training and a venue for exchanging ideas and programs.

Nearly 70 percent of AWBC's budget directly funded WBC leadership development programs so that women entrepreneurs learn what they need to succeed.

Our work provides economic choice and well being to the hundreds of thousands of women and families who choose freedom rather than dependency.
