Get people talking about your expertise
In business, you want to be continually in front of potential clients. But how can you be everywhere all the time? Some people make it look easy. You see or hear about them everywhere. Do they clone themselves? No, they just know the secret. They get people to talk about them.
One way to make this happen is to be known as an expert. Learn as much as you can about the topic you're most passionate about. Talk to other experts. Learn what they know, attend seminars and read books about your area of expertise. Then take that knowledge and expand on it.
Become a speaker on your chosen topic. Many organizations offer speaking opportunities. A few local ones are Rochester Women's Network, National Association of Women Business Owners and chambers of commerce. When you present your first seminar, include information about how you can be reached to schedule a similar talk for other groups. Let people know you would like to talk to their organization.
If you're nervous about speaking in public, start slowly. Ease into it by speaking about a book written on your area of expertise and add your own thoughts or beliefs. When you are more confident, expand your content to a seminar based on your opinions.
Another way to get your name out there is to write articles for different publications. Those who read your article may send it to others, ultimately leading thousands of people to know about you.
It does take time for these secrets to work. Be patient, keep booking talks, and continue writing articles. Your effort will pay off in time.
