ASHRM is excited to announce the continuation of our Human Resources Internship Program through the University of Louisiana - Lafayette for the Spring of 2017. The internship is being offered to all Junior and Senior level students with concentrations in Human Resources and/or students who are interested in pursuing HR as a career. Students are required to perform 150 hours of approved internship duties during the internship semester.
ASHRM will reimburse your company $1500 ($10/hour for 150 hours for the Fall 2015 semester) back after the successful conclusion of the internship. The employer put the intern on their payroll. The ASHRM internship committee along with UL informs the board when the successful internship has been completed, and ASHRM sends the stipend to the employer. The student/intern must be mentored and duties must provide meaningful experience directly related to Human Resources. The student receives a little compensation, and some great HR exposure. You receive a reimbursed intern to utilize and contribute to UL’s HR Management concentration program. Our internship committee is targeting HR concentration majors, mainly juniors and entry seniors, and those interested in pursuing HR as a career. The employer can of course interview and select the intern desired.
Any interested employers wishing to participate must first complete the attached “ASHRM Internship Request Application.” Acadiana SHRM awards 2 stipends per semester. This is essentially your “application” and it must be approved by the ASHRM Internship Committee. The deadline to return this form is December 15th, however companies selected are encouraged to attend the UL Lafayette Internship Fair which will be held in mid-March.
The form has been posted on the ASHRM website homepage! or Click Here to download a copy.
Once approved, an employer will begin receiving resumes from University student applicants or the ASHRM Internship Committee.
Employer would then interview students just as you would with your normal selection/hiring process.
Offers are then made by the employer and intern selections are made on a first-to-extend-an-offer basis.
Notification of a hired intern must be made to Clayton Choate and Danielle Dayries, our Internship Committee Liasion. See contact information below.
Interns must be assigned a meaningful work experience!
Interns should be given a mentor/point person as their direct report.
The rate of pay will be $10/hour and they will be paid by the hiring employer through the regular payroll process.
The total minimum hours worked for the semester is 150, which is essentially 10 hours per week for 15 weeks. They may work more if mutually agreeable.
ASHRM will offer 2 - $1,500 stipends to active chapter member employers for the Fall semester. Stipends will be awarded on a first-to-request basis along with consideration of any previous stipends received. Please indicate whether you are interested in a stipend on the “Compensation” section on the Internship Description Form.
