Hong Kong Part 2 (Friday evening)
We went to bed so early last night that we woke up at 4:30 am and couldn’t go back to sleep. So we got up and got ready and went to the restaurant/club room on our floor for breakfast. It was a continental breakfast. We had bread, doughnuts, bacon, eggs, cereal and hot tea. Ansley has eaten a lot of bread since she has been here (and french fries too)! The view of the harbor from the restaurant is great. We sat up there a long time and ate breakfast and John checked his emails and voicemails and I entered the previous travel journal entry from there since they have a wireless internet connection.

From there we took a cab to the Knebusch’s hotel and met up with Ken, Emma, Bonnie and John and took the MTR (subway) all the way to DisneyLand. Ansley and Emma didn’t know we were going there until we got on the last train and the windows of the train were shaped like Mickey ears! Then they knew where we were going! We had a great time. It was very humid today but there was a breeze so it wasn’t too bad. We stayed at Disney for a few hours and then headed back to our hotel before the rush hour on the MTR hit. The last train close to the hotel was very very crowded. It was wall to wall people.

Hong Kong is so diverse that we haven’t had too many people stare at Ansley and take pictures but it happened quite a bit at DisneyLand. People were fascinated with Ansley and Emma. Some even had their pictures taken with her. Ansley was very good about all of it. One lady asked me where we were from. Then she asked how long the plane ride was…..3 or 4 hours she guessed. Ha! Try 17 or more! She was shocked.

We came back to the hotel around 4:30 pm and Ansley crashed for about an hour. She had been up since 4:30 am so she was very very tired! We had a hard time waking her up to go to dinner. We decided to take a cab to a shopping mall area that had a McDonalds. Ansley ate chicken nuggets and fries and even got a toy. I had a cheeseburger, fries and an apple pie and John had a hamburger and fries.

After McDonald’s we walked around the mall. There are many upscale stores there. Hong Kong is quite a chic city. We found a Chinese grocery store and spent about an hour in there looking at all the different foods and stuff. It was very interesting. One thing I’ve noticed is that there is Hello Kitty stuff everywhere here. There was even Hello Kitty pasta in the grocery store! I saw some Kim Chi in the grocery store and I thought of Scott. I think he likes that stuff. Yuck. Scott would get along great with Ken Knebusch.  He'll eat anything.  And I mean anything.

After the mall we took a taxi back to the hotel. The ride isn’t long at all and we’ve done it many times before and I haven’t been afraid. This time was different. This taxi driver was a little reckless! We almost hit 3 pedestrians…..I mean he had to slam on his brakes to keep from running them over them. Very scary. Pedestrians DO NOT have the right of way for sure! Then he passed a car and we were going in the wrong lane straight toward an oncoming car. I had to look down…..trying to avoid seeing the crash actually happen. I was very glad to get out of that car and very glad the ride wasn’t long!

Once at the hotel we got Ansley ready for bed and John went up to the club room to do some work (they have wireless internet access up there). It was nice for him to be able to chat with Jonathan and read emails so he can keep up with what is going on at home.  Tomorrow we head to Beijing.  The flight is about 3 hours which seems like nothing now.  I'm not really thrilled about it though.  I don't know anything about China Southern airline but at least the Knebusch's will be on the flight so we'll all be able to talk to each other and make the time go by quickly.   Talk to you tomorrow from Beijing.........
